Automaton Ancestry Traits

  • Construct Resilience. You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:

    • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.

    • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.

    • You are immune to the diseased condition.

    • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. When you take a long rest, you must spend the time in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

  • Integrated Protection. Your body has built-in defensive layers, which can be enhanced with armour:

    • You can don only armour with which you have training. To don armour other than a shield, you must incorporate it into your body over the course of 1 hour, during which you remain in contact with the armour. To doff armour, you must spend 1 hour removing it. You can don or doff armour as part of taking a short or long rest.

    • While you live, the armour incorporated into your body can’t be removed against your will.

    • An incorporated armor does not cause you to roll ability checks with disadvantage and your speed is not reduced from it.

  • Repairable body. If the mending cantrip is cast on you, you can spend a Hit Die, roll it, and regain a number of hit points equal to twice the number rolled plus your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 hit point; e.g. if your hit dice is 1d12, and you roll a 7, you regain 14 hit points plus your Constitution modifier). When you are dying, a successful Intelligence (tinkering tools) check can stabilise you instead of a Wisdom (medicine) check.

Automaton Heritage features

  • Warforged Heritage. As a warforged, you have the ability to incorporate one-handed weapons and tools into your body making them inseparable from you as long as long as they are incorporated into your body. You can incorporate a number of one-handed weapons or tools equal to your proficiency bonus. You can incorporate or replace any tool or weapon in your body over the course of 1 hour. You gain proficiency with any weapon or tool incorporated into your body and you can use a bonus action to retract or extend any number of incorporated weapons or tools (though you are still limited by how many items you can hold in your hands). While a weapon is extended, you can use the weapon as if you were holding it, and you can’t use that hand for other purposes. While a weapon or tool is retracted, it is completely hidden from view. If you have at least one magic weapon that requires attunement incorporated, you can attune to one of these items without it counting against the maximum number of magic items you can attune to.
