Spell Description
You make a spell attack at a creature within your reach. On a hit, that creature becomes cursed for the duration of the spell.
When you cast this spell, choose the nature of the curse from the following options:
While cursed, the target has disadvantage on ability checks.
While cursed, the target has disadvantage on attack rolls against a creature you chose.
While cursed, the target has disadvantage saving throws. After the creature fails a saving throw, it can make a Charisma saving throw (ignoring this curse) ending this effect on a success.
While cursed, when the target takes an action it must roll a d20. On a roll of 10 or less, the target wastes its action that turn doing nothing. Whenever the creature wastes an action on this effect, it can make a Charisma saving throw ending this effect on a success.
While cursed, one creature of your choice deals an extra 1d8 necrotic damage to the target whenever it deals damage to the target.
While cursed, the creature has vulnerability to one type of damage. After the creature takes this type of damage, it must make a Charisma saving throw ending this effect on a success.
At the DM's option, you may choose an alternative curse effect, but it should be no more powerful than those described above. The DM has final say on such a curse's effect. Whenever such a curse comes into effect, the creature gets a Charisma saving throw after to end the effect on a success (e.g. if the creature is cursed to “not be able to talk to its one true love,” it may lose the ability to speak while in the vicinity of its true love and get a Charisma saving throw when the target’s true love is not present any more ending the effect on a success.
Dispel magic has no effect on this spell but a remove curse spell cast on the target can end it. When you cast the spell, you can also set certain contingencies that will end the spell early (such as receiving a true love’s kiss).
At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the duration is 1 hour (concentration) instead. If you use a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the duration is 24 hours, and the spell does not require concentration. If you use a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the duration is 1 year, and targets have disadvantage on saving throws to end the curse. If you use a 9th level spell slot, the spell lasts until it is dispelled, and the target automatically fails all saving throws to end the curse.
